Στο Άστρος, (σημερινό Παράλιο Άστρος) διαδραματίστηκε ένα από τα σημαντικότερα γεγονότα των πρώτων μηνών της Επανάστασης του 1821. Η άφιξη στις 19 Ιουνίου 1821 του Δημητρίου Υψηλάντη, ως πληρεξούσιου του Γενικού Επιτρόπου της Αρχής και αδελφού του Αλέξανδρου, αρχηγού της Φιλικής Εταιρείας.
Εκεί, τον υποδέχθηκαν ο Κολοκοτρώνης, ο Πετρόμπεης, ο Ζαΐμης, ο Αναγνωσταράς, ο Κανέλλος Δεληγιάννης, ο Αρχιμανδρίτης Δικαίος – Παπαφλέσσας, ο Παλαιών Πατρών Γερμανός, ο Βρεσθένης Θεοδώρητος και άλλοι.
Ο Δ. Υψηλάντης έφερε μαζί του όχι μόνο το πληρεξούσιο σύμφωνο με το οποίο διοριζόταν Επίτροπος του Γενικού Εφόρου, αλλά και άλλα έγγραφα, καθώς και οδηγίες, συστάσεις και εντολές του αδελφού του. Επίσης έφερε και χρήματα που μαζεύτηκαν από εράνους στη Ρωσία.
Όπως προκύπτει από την περιγραφή των ιστορικών η υποδοχή ήταν μεγαλειώδης! Είχε κατέβει όλη σχεδόν η Επαρχία Αγίου Πέτρου για να τον υποδεχτεί και τον πολυχρονίσει. Του προσφέρθηκαν στεφάνια. Ο Κολοκοτρώνης παρέταξε 1000 άνδρες, οι οποίοι πυροβόλησαν τρεις φορές εν μέσω επευφημιών και ζητωκραυγών.
Αμέσως μετά την υποδοχή ο Κολοκοτρώνης, «εις τους ίσκιους των δένδρων του Άστρους», όπου αγκυροβόλησε το πλοίο που τον μετέφερε, παρέθεσε «τράπεζαν προς εστίασιν του Υψηλάντου και των περί αυτών», το περίφημο Κολοκοτρωνέικο Τραπέζι.
«Αυθημερόν, συνοδευόμενος παρ’ όλων των εν Άστρει ο Υψηλάντης μετέβη (κατευθείαν) εις Άγιον Ιωάννην, και από εκεί, μετά δύο ημέρας εις το στρατόπεδο των Βερβένων, «αξιούμενος πανδήμου πομπής, πλήρους χαράς και ελπίδων».
Όταν μαθεύτηκε πως ήλθε, ο λαός πετούσε από τη χαρά του και τον υποδεχόταν παντού σαν Μεσία!
Περιστατικό της υποδοχής περιγράφει σε επιστολή του ο Απόστολος Μαυρογένης – απόγονος του Παναγιώτη Ζαφειρόπουλου ή Άκουρου https://astrosparalio.gr/2019/03/24/25278/– προς τον Ν. Φλούδα στις 17 Αυγούστου 1938: «Ο Παναγιώτης Ζαφειρόπουλος έλαβε το προσωνύμιο Άκουρος ως εξής: Κατά την υποδοχή του Δημητρίου Υψηλάντη, αυτός τον ρώτησε γιατί έχει μακριά μαλλιά και ο Παναγιώτης Ζαφειρόπουλος του απάντησε –εάν δεν ελευθερωθεί το Έθνος δεν θα κόψω τα μαλλιά μου – και τότε ο Υψηλάντης του είπε «ώστε άκουρος θα μείνεις;».

Στις «καλένδες» το Μνημείο για την άφιξη του Δημητρίου Υψηλάντη
Πριν 2 χρόνια ο Όμιλος *Πυράμια* υπέβαλλε στο Δημοτικό Λιμενικό Ταμείο Βόρειας Κυνουρίας, κοστολογημένο σχέδιο για τη κατασκευή αναθηματικής στήλης (φωτ. Νο 1) για την άφιξη του Δημητρίου Υψηλάντη, στις 19 Ιουνίου 1821 βλέπε εδώ https://astrosparalio.gr/2022/06/18/19959/ , λαμβάνοντας υπόψη τις υποδείξεις της Εφορείας Αρχαιοτήτων Αρκαδίας, για κατασκευή στην εξομοιούμενη με χερσαία ζώνη του λιμανιού Παραλίου Άστρους, βλέπε (φωτ. The arrival of Dimitrios Ypsilantis
At Astros (the nowadays called Paralio Astros) during the first months of the Greek Revolution in 1821, took place one of the most significant historical events. The arrival of Dimitrios Ypsilantis in the 19th of June 1821, as a plenipotentiary of the General Commissioner of the Authority, his brother, Alexandros, leader of the Society of Friends (Filiki ETaireia).
When he arrived Kolokotronis, Petrobey, Zaimis, Anagnostaras, Kanellos Delilgiannis, the Archimandrite Dikaios- Papaflessas, Old Patras Germanos and many others, welcomed him.
The ship that transported Ypsilantis fired 21 cannonades to greet the assembled crowd. More than 1000 men, deployed by Kolkotronis, reciprocated the salute by firing three times while cheering enthusiastically.
Ypsilantis was carrying not only the power of attorney by which he was appointed Commissioner, but also other documents, as well as his brother’s instructions and recommendations. He also brought money raised from fundraisers in Russia.
According to the historians, the reception of Ypsilantis was magnificent. He was offered wreaths and almost everyone from the Province of Hagios Petros had come to welcome him.
In his letter sent to N. Flouda in August 17 1938, Apostolis Mavrogenis, descendant of Panagiotis Zafeiropoulos, describes the following incident that took place during the reception: “Panagiotis Zafeiropoulos was given the nickname Akouros: During the reception of Dimitrios Ypsilantis, he asked him why he had long hair and Panagiotis Zafeiropoulos answered him – if the Nation is not freed I will not cut my hair – and then Ypsilantis replied “so you will remain deaf?”.”
An incident of the reception is described in a letter by Apostolos Mavrogenis – a descendant of Panagiotis Zafeiropoulos or Akouros to N. Floudas on August 17, 1938: “Panagiotis Zafeiropoulos received the nickname Akuros as follows: During the reception of Dimitrios Ypsilantis, he asked him why he had long hair and Panagiotis Zafeiropoulos answered him – if the Nation is not freed I will not cut my hair – and then Ypsilantis said to him “so you will remain Akouros (i.e. the one that won’t cut his hair)?.
The meal of Kolokotronis
Kolokotronis had ordered the preparation of an outdoors fruitful meal for Ypsilantis and his men. The meal was located near the beach, close to the site of Paliosterna, “near the shadows of Astros’ trees”, where his ship had anchored.
The meal included one roasted sheep, cheese, wine and local bread. “During the same date, Ypsilantis accompanied by all people from Astros went to Hagios Ioannis and after two days to the camp of Vervena, where he received the enthusiasm and joy”.
When people learned the news of his arrival, welcome him as the Messiah!
The Monument for the arrival of Dimitrios Ypsilantis
Two years ago, the Pyramia Association submitted to the Municipal Port Fund of Northern Kynouria a costed design for the erection of a votive column, according to the guidelines of the Ephorate of Antiquities in Arkadia, dedicated to the arrival of Dimitrios Ypsilantis in the 19th of June 1821.
